Welcome to Foreign Language!
December 3, 2009
Dear Parents/Guardians,
We hope you had a happy Thanksgiving and that you enjoyed the 1st trimester Exhibition! We are very proud of your child(ren) and you should be as well, they are making great strides in their language learning this year so far!
We wanted to let you know about a change that will be made this term regarding foreign language homework grading. Instead of our homework assignments using a fraction grade (# correct out of total questions) it will be graded using the below rubric. The school has received feedback that it can be hard to know if students are meeting the expected level for assignments and if some assignments carry more weight than others when just a fraction is given. Therefore the Foreign Language classes will be trying out the use of this rubric for foreign language homework.
Students will receive a 1,2,3, or 4 grade on their homework. The number corresponds to the categories in the rubric below. The purpose of homework is for the students to practice the concepts learned in class and therefore they are expected to make some mistakes. With this in mind, the homework scores will be entered into the CUE report as being out of 3, where a 3 represents a completed homework assignment with some errors. Using this scale, receiving a 4 would be considered going above and beyond the expected level.
Please let either of us know if you have any questions and we would also be interested in your feedback regarding the rubric.
Sincerely,
Senorita Caulfield & Madame Campbell
