MCCPS Reads Three Cups of Tea
The Humanities Department at MCCPS has taken on a new initiative. Because community is central to our mission at MCCPS, we’ve decided to read together – as a community – the young reader’s version of the book Three Cups of Tea by Greg Mortenson. Mortenson’s book explores – in vivid, engaging writing - his own transformation from nurse and mountaineer to philanthropist and humanitarian.
The book engages on many levels, and we hope that this initiative will work to do the following: build community, promote literacy, and broaden our perspective about the world around us. These motivations fit neatly and nicely into the stated mission of our school.
Each student in grades 4-8 will receive a copy of the book to read. Students will participate in class-wide and school-wide activities; they will read, discuss and do projects.
We encourage you, parents and friends, to participate with us to really make this a community-wide experience. Get yourself a copy of the book and read with us. Join us at upcoming – to be announced – morning meetings where we will have presentations and activities related to the book and the stories which it tells.
We look forward to making this a lasting, important, and impactful experience. Please join us in making it so.
Sincerely,
Ryan Redmond, Humanities Department Head, MCCPS
