Exhibition III

MCCPS TV’s ESPN: Greek Olympic Coverage

Taking on the role of a broadcast team, students will work collaboratively to create a news report for MCCPS TV’s ESPN station. Each group will have news anchor, former athlete/now sports commentator, current Athlete (up and coming young star), and sports doctor. Researching the assigned sport each group will prepare and present an informative discussion on the issues surrounding this sport. Broadcast teams will answer questions about the history of the sport, how it has changed over time, what body systems are impacted by this type of physical activity, sports training needed.  Students will also compose an Olympic theme, which will be recorded at Ringo Studios that will exemplify the physical activity involved. Each student will also create a wire and plaster gauze sculpture that shows an Olympic athlete in action (each of the four team members will display a different body position). The proportions of the body need to be accurate, the realistic pose depicting an action moment of the sport.

Through this project students will demonstrate their understanding of the skeletal and muscular system, movement, control and coordination.  What are the muscles that are used to perform each sport?  What bones are these muscles connected to in the body? How does the skeletal system work with the muscular system to move the body? What are some injuries that could happen? How can athletes strengthen/increase endurance and physical stamina? Each student will participate in various events, determine their distance and calculate their scores. Teams will identify what unit of measurement is used for each track and field event.  Measurements will be converted from US standard to metric and rounded when appropriate.

Possible Sports will be:   40 yard dash, relay, long jump, javelin, boxing, wrestling, shot put, hurdles, discus, pole vault, gymnastics.

In Foreign Language, students will create a replication of the body with various systems and organs labeled, along with brief descriptions (in French or Spanish) of each system’s function.

MCCPS TV’s E! Entertainment Television: The Roman Forum Red Carpet Coverage
What will the Roman stars be wearing this season? How does their dress, items they carry with them, and artwork depicting them demonstrate the character and identity of these Roman figures? Taking on a persona of a famous Roman figure (historical or mythical), seventh graders will be interviewed by our Exhibition Night guests on the Roman Forum Red Carpet. Using fashion templates, historical depictions and documentation, students will create questions and answers in preparation for the red carpet debut. Some of the questions will be answered in English and French or Spanish.  Visitors will supply TV ratings that will be passed into a Rating box.

Multimedia Macbeth

The “fair” students of the seventh grade will unveil Shakespeare’s most “foul” work. Each student will develop a website that examines a scene from the play Macbeth. Each website will analyze the lines in the scene and creates subpages that describe the figurative language, character traits, style, mood, setting, and theme in each scene. In addition to analyzing Shakespeare’s words, students will develop their own media (pictures, sound, and video) and design to illustrate the meaning behind scenes. The goal of each website is to clearly communicate the different elements of their scene.
