New Moon
“It felt like I was trapped in one of those terrifying nightmares, the one where you have to run, run till your lungs burst, but you can’t make your body move fast enough. My legs seemed to move slower and slower as I fought my way through the callous crowd, but the hands on the huge clock tower didn’t slow. With relentless, uncaring force, they turned inexorably toward the end – the end of everything.”
Those first three sentences of Stephenie Meyer’s New Moon were a page turner for me. New Moon hooked me and took my breath away with its mysterious setting and mood. New Moon is the sequel to Meyer’s well known teen fantasy Twilight. The genres of the books are mystery, fantasy, romance, and action. It is the second book in the Twilight series. The main character is Bella Swan, who is about to turn eighteen. She is an adventurous and sweet girl originally from Phoenix, Arizona. She lived with her mom, Renée, until she visited her father Charlie in Forks, Washington. This is also where she met Edward Cullen, who became her boyfriend for a year and counting. Also, where she met her 16 year old friend, Jacob Black, who she has known since she was a child. Many unnatural things are happening in Forks. For instance, an enemy lurks in the forests, who Bella doesn’t want to meet again. Also, ever since Jacob has started hanging out with his new friends he has been acting almost unhuman, and Bella can’t figure out why.
Because New Moon is filled with dangerous creatures, action, intensity, and romance, it is a great book for anyone who likes fantasy stories, action stories or love stories. If you read it, get ready for a cliffhanger ending, because this book will leave you grasping for more. But there is the next book, Eclipse to look forward to reading afterward. New Moon was an action packed, intense book. It had me dying to read more, and it will do the same for you.
